Position Summary Information

Job Goal

Provide effective instruction and carry out assigned related responsibilities while teaching pre-nursing courses in a high school setting.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in nursing required; or BSN with annual progression towards a master’s degree in nursing. Must be able to meet Iowa Board of Nursing academic qualifications and the credentialing requirements in Northeast Iowa Community College’s Quality Faculty Plan (QFP). Must maintain current Iowa RN licensure. Three years of RN experience required; teaching experience desired. One year of full time long term nursing care preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation. Must have strong communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for classroom instruction for high school and nursing courses assigned.
2. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the nursing department.
3. Work collaboratively with staff from the college and the high schools.
4. Teach utilizing electronic equipment if required and in serviced.
5. Meet all scheduled class and office commitments as promptly as possible.
6. Attend and participate in faculty meetings as assigned.
7. Emphasize to all classes the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
8. Keep attendance records on all students to comply with Federal Financial Aid Guidelines.
9. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports as requested.
10. Submit referrals to the Department Chair and high school guidance counselor on any student who may be in need of counseling.
11. Serve actively on any committees to which appointed.
12. Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies.
13. Promptly report repairs needed for the classroom and equipment.
14. Assist in recruiting students.
15. Assist with the development and support of a cohesive general education program within the department, campus, high schools, and college district.
16. Represent the college in a professional manner in all settings.
17. Adhere to responsibilities as outlined in the Department of Nursing Reference Manual and the high school policies.
18. Perform additional professional responsibilities as assigned.
