Position Summary Information

Job Goal

Provide effective instruction and carry out assigned related responsibilities.


Must meet minimum experience and education requirements specified by Northeast Iowa Community College and meet the credentialing requirements of the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma, Welding Certification or an (Associate of Applied Science Degree) in welding, metal fabrication, and manufacturing processes, or a related area of study or occupational area in which the instructor is teaching OR special training and at least 6,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area or related occupational area in which the instructor is teaching. Must meet physical requirements of position. Successful performance of duties requires competency and comprehensive understanding of various welding fabrication processes and blueprint skills or cited below:
• Welding Blueprint Knowledge
• Gas Welding (GMAW)
• Basic Arc Welding (SMAW)
• Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
• Oxyacetylene Fuel Welding/Cutting
• Knowledge of OSHA Weld Safety Standards

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Possess a comprehensive knowledge in teaching theory and fabrication and skill development in the process described above.
2. Possess necessary skills to organize develop, relevant curriculum and teach/evaluate student performance. Delivery of duties may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
3. Meet all initial credential requirements and maintain credentialing in compliance with NICC Quality Faculty Plan.
4. Regularly engage in professional development activities, staying abreast of technological advances.
5. Develop, monitor, and manage program budget consistent with applicable policy.
6. Represent the college in a professional, positive manner with prospective, former and current students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community contacts.
7. Possess the ability to demonstrate respect for and sensitivity to a diverse student population.
8. Possess ability to develop, organize, and present various curriculum concepts to wide diversity of students.
9. Establish and maintain positive personal/professional working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and all community contacts.
10. Possess ability to communicate orally and in writing.
11. Possess ability to work with personalities of diverse backgrounds in the classroom and in work groups with colleagues.
12. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the department in which one is assigned.
13. Responsible for working with other faculty in curriculum development for lecture and lab classes.
14. Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty/department meetings unless excused by the Department Dean.
15. Assist program students in advising and registration.
16. Keep daily attendance records on all students to comply with federal financial aid guidelines.
17. Assist in recruiting students.
18. Submit reports on all students who may experience academic difficulty or in need of counseling.
19. Meet all scheduled class and office commitments.
20. Emphasize to student classes the expectation of prompt and regular attendance.
21. Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies.
22. Assist with development of retention and recruiting strategies.
23. As an NICC employee, support the College mission and maintain conduct in a positive/professional manner which comports with NICC policies and procedures.
24. Perform additional professional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Essential Functions

Position involves work in a variety of settings including office, classroom, welding lab, and occasional travel to off-site work locations. Frequent (34—66%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
