Position Summary Information

Job Goal

Provide effective instruction and carry out assigned related responsibilities within a CAAHEP accredited medical assistant program.


1. Registered nurse with at least three full time or five part time years of recent experience working in an out-patient clinic setting required.
2. Experience working alongside medical assistants required.
3. Must be knowledgeable in medical assisting job skills, as evidenced by education and experience.
4. Must be able to instruct and assess student learning and performance of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board’s (MAERB) core curriculum.
5. Must be able to appropriately and sufficiently evaluate and ensure student achievement in the practicum experience.
6. Must be able to meet the instructor credentialing requirements of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and Northeast Iowa Community College’s Quality Faculty Plan (QFP).
7. Previous teaching experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform instructional and program practicum coordinator duties in the Medical Assisting program, following program accreditation and department policies and procedures.
2. Assist with the development and support of a cohesive education program within the department, campus and college district.
3. Demonstrate, evaluate, and assess Medical Assistant front and back office skills to students in the Medical Assisting program.
4. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of course outlines as set forth by the department in which one is assigned.
5. Teach according to the MAERB Core Curriculum for Medical Assisting.
6. Support and enforce the student policies as directed in the student policy and procedures manual.
7. Keep attendance records on all students to comply with Federal Financial Aid Guidelines.
8. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports to the Department Dean as requested.
9. Submit reports on all students who may be in need of counseling.
10. Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies.
11. Promptly report repairs needed for the classroom and equipment.
12. Meet all scheduled class, office, and college commitments.
13. Assist in recruitment of students.
14. Actively participate in college and program assessment.
15. Actively participate in the program review process.
16. Select and approve appropriate student practicum sites and provide orientation for on-site supervisors.
17. Provide oversight of student practicum, including on-site assessment of student experiences and the quality of learning opportunities, following CAAHEP standards.
18. Maintain CAAHEP required statistics of practicum rotations.
19. Insure appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the practicum experience.
20. Attend and participate in college, department, and faculty meetings.
21. Represent the college in a professional manner in all settings.
22. Perform additional professional responsibilities as assigned.
