Position Summary Information

Job Goal

Provide effective instruction and carry out assigned related responsibilities within a CAAHEP accredited medical assistant program.


1. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, LPN, or Registered nurse with an active certification/license to practice required.
2. At least three full time or five part time years of recent experience working in an out-patient clinic setting required.
3. Knowledgeable in medical assisting job skills, as evidenced by education and experience.
4. Ability to instruct and assess student learning and performance of the Medical Assisting program’s core curriculum.
5. Previous teaching experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform theory and lab instruction in the Medical Assisting program, following program accreditation and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Demonstrate, evaluate, and assess Medical Assistant front and back office skills to students in the Medical Assisting program.
3. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of course outlines as set forth by the department in which one is assigned.
4. Teach according to the MAERB Core Curriculum for Medical Assisting.
5. Support and enforce the student policies as directed in the Medical Assistant program student policy and procedures manual.
6. Possess ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
7. Keep attendance records on all students to comply with Federal Financial Aid Guidelines.
8. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports to the Department Dean as requested.
9. Submit reports on all students who may be in need of counseling.
10. Keep accurate inventory of lab equipment and supplies and promptly report needs to program director.
11. Meet all scheduled class, office, and college commitments.
12. Actively participate in college and program assessment.
13. Represent the college in a professional manner with prospective, former and current students, faculty, administrators, employers, and community contacts.
14. Demonstrate respect for and sensitivity to a diverse student population.
15. Regularly engage in professional development activities related to the field of instruction.
16. Support the college mission.
