Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must meet minimum experience and education requirements specified by Northeast Iowa Community College and meet the credentialing requirements of the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.
2. Must possess demonstrated scholarly achievement; organizational and management skills; and interests and abilities commensurate with the needs and goals of the program.
3. Must possess computer literacy skills to include a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
4. Must possess necessary skills to organize develop, relevant curriculum and teach/evaluate student performance
5. Must regularly engage in professional development activities, staying abreast of technological advances.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. Must have a doctorate in veterinary medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited program with licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Iowa.
2. Must have five (5) or more years of recent clinical experience with competency in small animal medicine and surgery.
3. Must have experience working in a clinical setting with veterinary technicians or technologists.
4. Must possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; and the physical ability to perform veterinary duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:
1. The incumbent will possess the KSA’s (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) to teach the following courses in Large Animal Veterinary Technology, Dairy/Beef Science, and other related Ag. Programs:

2. Ability to teach, demonstrate for, and mentor students in the following veterinary technical skills:
a) Participation in facility management utilizing traditional and electronic media and appropriate veterinary medical terminology.
b) Communication in a professional manner in all formats – written, oral, non-verbal, and electronic.
c) Knowledge of and ability to follow and uphold applicable laws and the veterinary technology profession’s ethical codes to provide high quality care to patients
d) Methods for safely and effectively administering prescribed drugs to patients.
e) Proper protocols for accurately dispensing and explaining prescribed drugs to clients.
f) Ability to demonstrate and perform patient assessment techniques in a variety of animal species.
g) Ability to understand and demonstrate husbandry, nutrition, therapeutic and dentistry techniques appropriate to various animal species.
h) Ability to safely and effectively manage patients in all phases of anesthetic procedures.
i) Ability to safely and effectively select, utilize and maintain anesthetic delivery and monitoring instruments and equipment.
j) Ability to understand and integrate all aspects of patient management for common surgical procedures in a variety of animal species.
k) Ability to understand and provide the appropriate instruments, supplies and environment to maintain asepsis during surgical procedures.
l) Methods for proper packaging, handling, and storage of specimens for laboratory analysis.
m) Methods for proper analysis of laboratory specimens.
n) Ability to safely and effectively produce diagnostic radiographs and non-radiographic images.
o) Ability to safely and effectively handle common laboratory animals used in animal research.
p) Ability to understand the approach to providing safe and effective care for birds, reptiles, amphibians, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, and ferrets.

3. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the department in which assigned. Delivery of duties may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
4. Meet all scheduled class and office commitments as promptly as possible.
5. Assist in student advising and registration.
6. Emphasize to students the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
7. Keep attendance records on all students to comply with federal financial aid guidelines.
8. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports to the Dean as requested.
9. Submit reports on all students who may be in academic difficulty or in need of counseling.
10. Serve actively on any committees to which appointed.
11. Submit purchase orders for materials needed for instructional assignments.
12. Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies.
13. Assist in recruiting students as needed.
14. Possess the ability to demonstrate respect for and sensitivity to a diverse student population.
15. Possess ability to develop, organize, and present various curriculum concepts to a wide diversity of students.
16. Establish and maintain positive personal/professional working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and all community contacts.
17. Possess ability to communicate orally and in writing.
18. Possess ability to work with personalities of diverse backgrounds in the classroom and in work groups with colleagues.
19. As an NICC employee, support the College mission and maintain conduct in a positive/professional manner which comports with NICC policies and procedures.
20. Perform additional professional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor.
