Position Summary Information

Job Goal

To promote and assist in the efficient delivery of Online and Blended Learning classes throughout the NICC District.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Assist faculty in the design, development, and management of online course instruction using online course guidelines, adult learning theory, and assessment rubrics.
Assist faculty on campus with hands-on incorporation of multimedia technology, computer software programs, and equipment in the classroom.
Assist faculty with the integration of multimedia technology in web-enhanced, online, ICN, and hybrid learning environments.
Develop and implement training programs designed to assist faculty in learning, practicing, and developing pedagogical theory and skills related to web-based instruction and technology.
Research and improve distance learning delivery methods through a strong commitment to continuous professional growth in areas of educational technologies. Remain current in industry trends and related technology. Participate in regular professional development opportunities.
Monitor intellectual property right issues regarding the use of web-based resources and materials in the classroom.
Support faculty in the development and use of courseware designed to engage students and achieve learning objectives.
Collaborate with faculty in the creation, conversion, and management of web-based courses and resources.
Establish standards to align courses with Quality Matters.
Facilitate required online training courses.
Create and maintain consistency for online course structure.
Create help documents, how-to guides, videos, courses, and other similar items for faculty and students.
Review course rubrics and other similar documents per established department policies.
Communicate with Director of Online and Blended Learning all pertinent information regarding online course reviews, web portal/LMS technical problems, and general concerns with online courses and other departmental operations.
Serve on committees as needed.
Provide regular blog and other related media updates.
Provide support to Online and Blended Learning students and faculty.
Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, distance learning, educational technology or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 5 years online teaching experience. Experience with Quality Matters.

Experience working in course management systems (e.g. Brightspace by D2L, Blackboard, Moodle, etc). Experience teaching, training, and working collaboratively with higher-education faculty. Knowledge of and skill in the incorporation of technology, multimedia equipment, and software programs in the college classroom. Knowledge of distance learning technologies, intellectual property laws, and software applications for authoring (e.g. SnagIt, Captivate, Articulate, etc.). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including written correspondence, correct grammar in writing and speaking, creativity, self-motivation, problem solving, sense of humor, and positive/professional attitude. Computer experience in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications required. Must have excellent telephone skills. Online teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred. Must work effectively with diverse groups including students, administrators, faculty, staff, and outside agencies/groups. Ability and willingness to travel District-wide for training and professional development activities.
