Position Summary Information

Job Goal

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining all facilities and equipment at the Dairy Foundation/NICC farm.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain and repair tractors, skid loaders, spreaders, and other farm equipment as per dealer service manuals.
2. Maintain and repair the dairy’s conventional and robotic milking systems.
3. Maintain and repair, as needed, the barns, sheds, and shop on the Dairy Foundation/NICC farm including fans, pumps, scrapers, drinkers, gates, headlocks, and other livestock equipment.
4. Provide on-call service to the robotic milking system on a rotational basis with other full-time employees of the Dairy Foundation.
5. Assist with bedding and scraping barns, plus carrying out the farm’s manure management plan.
6. Mix and deliver feed to the farm’s livestock every other weekend and holiday.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Associate of Science (AAS) in Agriculture or related agriculture field or Five (5) years’ experience maintaining farm equipment and buildings required.

2. Teaching experience and/or ability to instruct, supervise, and mentor students preferred.

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

4. Must be able to respond to an emergency and be on-site at the Dairy Center within a maximum of fifteen (15) minutes.

5. Ability to use with proficiency the Microsoft Office suite and dairy management software.

6. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Essential Functions

Position involves working in a farm setting. Frequent (34-66%) standing, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Occasional (10-33%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking, and hearing. Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to travel. Must possess the ability and willingness to operate farm equipment and machinery.
