Position Summary Information

Job Goal

To assist as needed with the daily operation of the Bookstore, and to maintain customer service in the absence of the Bookstore Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Assist students with textbooks purchases based on their class schedule.
Perform cash register sales, credit card transactions, and charging to financial aid accounts.
Process customer refunds for book returns.
Prepare deposits for the business office.
Process clothing and other related orders as requested.
Assist in preparation for inventory and counting of inventory items.
Maintain filing systems.
Process book returns.
Post outgoing college mail as required.
Process online bookstore orders.
Prepare purchase requisitions and other documents for purchasing.
Check and verify receipt of incoming product orders.
Accurately price books and supplies for retail sales.
Charge and bill out central supply items to departments as required.
Track payment of invoices for credit card purchases.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.


High school diploma required. Appropriate work experience and/or post-secondary education required.


Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills. Computer skills/training to include word processing and spreadsheet applications. Bookkeeping skills to include receipting, posting, and depositing of funds. Experience with cash register operation preferable. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.

CLERICAL/MANUAL: Work involves clerical tasks; following standardized procedures, techniques, or procedures; and carrying out practices according to standards set by a supervisor or employers.

Essential Functions

Requires work involving: Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling less than 1/3 of the time; sitting, gripping, reaching, talking or hearing over 2/3 of the time; lifting up to 50 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).

The job may risk exposure to indoor environment and noise.
