Position Summary Information

Job Goal

Serve as a career coach to students in in the Dubuque school district enrolled in the Career Learning Link program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with principals/counselors/teachers/school leads to identify, recruit and enroll CLL students into all pathway areas.
Serve as primary Career Coach at designated high school(s).
Assist in implementing Career Learning Link marketing program in assigned schools.
Work closely with partner organizations (UERPC and ECIA) to ensure all students are receiving wrap-around services as required by the YCC grant.
Work closely with NICC High School Partnerships staff, NICC Admissions, Center Directors and others who have a regular presence in the high school setting.
Learn about NICC Career Pathways, which include credit and certificate options and apply knowledge in order to present all possible opportunities to YCC students.
Use database resources to set up job shadow experiences for students.
As appropriate, connect with other institutions of higher education that interest YCC students to assist students in the transition to those colleges/universities.
Learn and apply basic Senior Year Plus guidelines.
Plan and execute parent/student orientations at assigned high schools.
Travel to high schools and other locations as necessary.
Assist students in completing CLL intake forms
Promote and enroll students in the optional program components of mentoring, internships and leadership opportunities.
Meet with each CLL student at least twice yearly to discuss program goals, participation, and outcomes.
Help students develop goals, a career/education path and implement the best ways to achieve success. Each student must have an Individualized Development Plan.
Establish and maintain a standard-format case file on each YCC student.
Report required data to Career and Intermediary Coordinator to meet reporting requirements.
As applicable, assist with implementing the internship program and supervise students in the internship program.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Demonstrated experience in proactive customer service and student support. Experience in student advising, teaching or counseling desirable.

Evidence of the ability to teach/motivate students at the college level. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing the community college student population. Demonstrated ability to develop positive mentoring/coaching relationships with a diverse student population. Highly organized, strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and progress reports and meet deadlines and program outcomes for grant compliance. Demonstrated ability to work with people effectively. Possess strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills. Commitment and willingness to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, departmental, and institutional levels. Demonstrated computer abilities, including Microsoft Office Suite, and the willingness and ability to learn new software and technology tools. Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced work environment. Proven ability to meet deadlines and program outcomes for grant compliance. Collaborate with internal and external grant partners to provide quality, seamless student service and support. Personal qualities of honesty, flexibility, approachability, enthusiasm, and sense of humor. Flexibility in work hours and willingness to travel within District is required.
